Alcatrazz - Disturbing The Peace
Bonnet et al’s third opus, from 1985
Following the departure of guitar demigod Yngwie Malmsteen, Alcatrazz pulled a rabbit out of the hat when they introduced the equally dextrous Steve Vai. But the sound remained much the same; the 10 songs (and one Vai instrumental) on this slipcased set sticking to the melodic hard rock template, from the opening God Blessed Video, to the syndrummed closer Breaking The Heart Of The City. Bonnet sings his heart and lungs out throughout, as you’d expect, and lights the touchpaper on the likes of the pomp-filled Mercy and raging Wire & Wood. Desert Diamond nods to his MSG past, while Stripper has a club scene pastiche very much of its time. Sons & Lovers slows things for a bit of harmonica, but Skyfire retains the emphatic momentum.
