Buzzcocks

View: rose-tinted

Reeling out reflective classics such as Nostalgia, 16 Again and Whatever Happened To?, Buzzcocks were always way too intro- and retrospective to fit in lyrically with the quick shag/fuck you/smash it up themes of common or garden punk. Universally lovelorn, always as aware of horizons as endless possibilities, Buzzcocks’ music was built to last. Hence, the emotional hooks still tug and lift as effectively as the three-note solos, the whole Buzzcocks 30 event being a sensual timewarp. The present-day spectacle of the great survivors, Shelley and Diggle, is acted out amid a disorientating lightshow of Malcolm Garrett’s original Futurist artwork and Kevin Cummins’ studies of the band. This superimposed presence of the past wouldn’t make sense for most other bands, but it all ties together perfectly and Buzzcocks prove themselves utterly timeless.
