Alliance - Destination Known
Sub-super supergroup
With Three’s Rob Berry joined by Boston’s Gary Pihl, Dave Lauser (Sammy Hagar Band) and Nightranger’s Alan Fitzgerald, expectations for Alliance were understandably high. Their eponymous 12-song set, however, is middling melodic rock fare, reminiscent of John Waite on the likes of opener The Meaning Of Love, and Bon Jovi on the pleading Best Of Me. Bluesier tones also surface, while four bonus cuts include the more forceful This Is The World and a barely audible Love Win.
The 11-song Missing Piece adds four tunes too, the pick of which is the Alannah Myles-styled beat of Tonight. Building Wisdom From The Wounds rocks with vigour, as does Call Of The Wild, and the strings-backed It’s A Long Way To Go could be a Mellencamp call to arms. All decent enough, if never kicking into overdrive.
