The New Jazz Orchestra - Western Reunion London 1965

Why wait any longer?

The Vocalion modern British jazz re-pressings continue with this beauty, a rare live recording of Neil Ardley’s New Jazz Orchestra. It’s a strange beast: one that is easy to pass over. But, stay with it, listen a few times and the subtleties and full colour of this darkish-blue performance will slowly get through to you. It’s a transitional session for the New Jazz Orchestra. Themove from straight-ahead jazz to more modal forms is apparent, and both Ardley’s arrangements and own composition suits both forms perfectly.
