The Fureys & Davey
Arthur
Dublin Vicar Street
5th April, 2007
View: left balcony (obscured by cameras)
The Fureys & Davey Arthurs love performing and, even if the audience weren’t as enthusiastic, they gave rousing versions of Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway, Red Rose Caf and Sweet Sixteen. The absence of Finbar was most noticeable on The Lonesome Boatman, where the tin whistle and accordion were less haunting than his feadg mr and uilleann pipes. But the vocal harmonies were beautiful on Steal Away and their interpretation of Leaving Nancy and The Green Fields Of France were fresh and poignant. It was thus a little disappointing that they left with a whimper as the encore of Goodnight Irene failed to keep an otherwise attentive audience in their seats.
