Echoes: The Complete History Of Pink Floyd
by Glenn Povey

Just nod if you can hear me…

Marking 40 years since the release of Arnold Layne, Glenn Povey updates 1997’s well received In The Flesh with Echoes, which fully encompasses all things Floyd. In this laborious task, the right balance is struck between an engaging and flowing biographical style and relevant factual, and at times dense, detail.

While it’s rewarding to flick through this large and colourful book, taking in rare photos, tickets and posters, Echoes is a solid reference directory, with complete listings of every Floyd and solo gig, set lists, discography, and TV/radio appearances. From the early 60s to new millennium post-Live8 solo projects, it lets the reader decide whether or not to get bogged down in the minutiae. Of particular interest is the chapter that documents the pre-Floyd band incarnations such as Joker’s Wild and The Tea Set, finally clearly laying out the foundations. The serious Floyd fan and casual listener alike will find this broughtup- to-date and corrected version of the Floyd story a rewarding and revealing experience.
