The Dandy Warhols - Best Of The Capitol Years: 1995-2007

Bohemian like these

A mobile phone ad and a car commercial brought Portland’s Dandy Warhols to the attention of the mainstream. Both used a snippet of their 2000 single Bohemian Like You on their TV campaigns and, as a result, it was reissued the following year to become one of that summer’s ubiquitous anthems.

And rightly so – it was, and still is, a gloriously upbeat pastiche of faux-boho modern youth culture that’s as catchy as it is cutting. It was a far cry from the meandering, selfindulgent neo-psychedelia of even their first major label album, …The Dandy Warhols Come Down, which is where this largely chronological collection begins. Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth demonstrates just how good this band can be when they get it right, as do We Used To Be Friends and the ramshackle nuances of All The Money Or The Simple Life Honey.

One new song, This Is The Tide, is tacked onto the end to entice the über-fans, and that also sits up there with the best of the rest. Overall, however, the Dandys’ repetitive, drug-induced drone is a little dull, even when distilled into a compilation.
