Jackson Browne & David Lindley - Love Is Strange
Colección de canciones hechas con los amigos españoles
A jealous guy reading the sleevenotes of this live 2-CD might find it easy to be extremely envious of Jackson Browne. Sure we know he worked hard and long to craft the songs that made his name, but the casual mention of his apartment in Barcelona and the long queue of talented musicians waiting to play with him at a series of sold-out concerts across Spain arranged by a good friend who smoothed everything along the way… Well, it could be hard to take.
So it’s a good job that the actual music takes any negative feeling away by adding to the Browne canon. There’s little or no new material here but the songs are given a fresh twist first of all by David Lindley (who appears to be able to play any stringed instrument ever invented with facility and grace) and then by addition of cajón, tres, banduria, flute and Spanish vocals: try Tu Tranquilo, for example, a version of Take It Easy translated both verbally and musically.
If you still need something to hold on to, despite that apartment and an upbringing in California, it has to be said that Browne’s introductions en español sound just a little shaky.
