We Are The Fallen
London King’s College Student’s Union
24th March, 2010
View: standing by bar
Making their live debut, the quintet comprising three ex- Evanescence members (their name nodding to guitarist/ songwriter Ben Moody’s Fallen, as well as their status) and American Idol singer Carly Smithson, belted out 13 numbers in 55 minutes, demonstrating that Amy Lee has competition. All the trademark chugging guitar riffs, pummeling percussion and soaring vocals over piano/keys were present and correct, along with Smithson’s gothic allure, and WATF showcased their new set with the likes of the thunderous Without You and first single, Bury Me Alive. Cello-effect keyboards built the gothic symphonic tone of I Am Only One, and Madonna’s Like A Prayer got a similar makeover. Iron Maiden’s Flight Of Icarus was faithfully rendered, before the Valkyrie splendor of Through Hell and the closing punch of album title track Tear The World Down.
