Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs

For Scaggs addicts everywhere

Singer-songwriter and ex-Steve Miller Band man, Scaggs had quite a lengthy solo career before the wider public began to take notice. Despite critical acclaim, Scaggs didn’t find commercial success until 1976’s Silk Degrees. Scaggs’ second solo project, originally released in 1969, receives a well-deserved reissue here. It’s also one of his best efforts. Featuring guitar hero Duane Allman, the album combines soul and blues with funky elements, Scaggs’ slight, early-career rawness acting as a positive element to the mix.

The album itself has been excellently mastered using the original tapes and produced with the half-speed mastering process (master tape and vinyl cutting lathe both running at precisely half their recorded speeds). The cymbals splash far and wide, the vocals are more lifelike, emotive and easier to understand. Anyone interested in sincere honky-soul should take a good listen.
