Bengt Olsson - Wolf’s At The Door: Lost Recordings From The Spirits Of The South

Black snakes moan

Bengt Olsson arrived in America during 1964 with the intention of seeking out and recording long lost blues artists. He made a start in Chicago and then moved on to Memphis, creating a range of field recordings of the likes of Johnny Wilson, Lattie Murrell and Bishop Perry Tillis, who subsequently returned home to preach, believing that his music was tied to the devil. Some of Olsson’s recordings have appeared on the 2003 Flyright-released CD On The Road Again: Country Blues 1969-1974, but many more appear here on this 12-track vinyl that features raw, dark and emotionally-scored tracks. Where else are you going to find a song entitled, simply, Moan?
