Charles Walker - I’m Available

Quality and experience will out

Charles Walker has been paying his dues since the late 50s, from when he worked the NY clubs, had a spell at Chess and, later, was a staff writer at Motown. With this wealth of experience, he cut this 1999 album in Nashville with a tight, bluesy band.

Such vintage projects may well deliver rich vocals and good playing, but stand or fall on the material. Happily, I’m Available delivers more than adequately. The title track is a fast, attacking slice of soulful R&B, while Homewrecker Legs gives the band opportunity to set out their stall.

Light and shade come with When I’m Gone; and, of the five bonus tracks, Young Girl stands out. A release that will reward all soul/ R&B/blues fans who seek it out.
