Fandango - Cadillac

American septet’s 1980 offering

Best known as one of the pre- Rainbow homes of singer Joe Lynn Turner, and with a guitarist named Rick Blakemore (who does he think he is?), the seven-piece traded in melodic rock tinged by funk and even disco beats, as illustrated on the opening Blame It On The Night, with its piercing synth and rolling hihat. Rock N Roll You gets phased, Hypnotised is akin to period Blue Öyster Cult, while the title track is marked out by piano stabs and some squelchy keyboards.

The final trio of cuts see the unit kick into gear, with Fortune Teller boasting some excellent axe-work, as does the funky Get Away and uptempo closer Headline. Other tunes are, however, thinner make-weights, which probably explains Cadillac’s short journey.
