Gomez
London Troxy
20th November, 2009
View: balcony
They’re accomplished live, but it’s strange to see a band overshadowed by their finest song. Until then, there was a strange atmosphere, Gomez finally unleashing Whippin’ Piccadilly towards the end to the intense pleasure of a joyous crowd. This high-point was compounded with a great How To Operate, while solid performances of Make No Sound, Rhythm And Blues Alibi and Free To Run stood out. But there were several forgettable songs, and something unremarkable about their Beatley brand of soulful rock. Image-wise, Gomez are an ordinary looking bunch of geek rockers, and unfortunately, their lack of charisma reflected this. Apart from a smattering of bland asides, they rarely engaged with their audience.
