Rickie Lee Jones
London Cadogan Hall
11th November, 2009
Stalls: right, centre
Promoting Balm Of Gilead, backed by seasoned musicians, including Sal Bernardi and Rob Wasserman, they started with the slow, haunting His Jewelled Floor, before Rickie moved effortlessly between classical and electric guitar and piano. The set took in classics Stewart’s Coat, Weasel And The White Boys and Last Chance Texaco, but the strongest offering was new song, Bonfires, which hardly left a dry eye in the house. The performance was loose and free, the band following Rickie’s lead, finishing with her duet with Wasserman on Autumn Leaves. A fitting end to a great evening.
