These two Hammersmith and Donington shows from 1987, performed either side of the release of Anthrax’s best album, Among The Living, demonstrate to headbangers of a certain vintage how much times have changed. The New York quintet were at their peak here, delivering their unique strain of comic book thrash metal with massive speed and precision: the ATL classics I Am The Law, Indians and Caught In A Mosh still sound amazing all these years later. Another three or four years lay ahead of ’Thrax before the classic line-up collapsed, the riffs slowed down and people began to lose interest – though you’d never know it from the way the crowd shout “Mosh! Mosh! Mosh!” like it was going out of style. As, of course, it was. Still, what a band…
