Hughes/Thrall - Hughes/Thrall

Post-NWOBHM metal benchmark reissued

Bassist Glenn Hughes (of both Deep Purple and Black Sabbath fame) joined forces with guitarist and former Pat Travers cohort, Pat Thrall, for this classic hard rock set in 1982. Thankfully, the focus of Rock Candy’s reissue series of important rock albums has landed on this, as Hughes/Thrall is about as important as post-NWOBHM albums get. It singlehandedly formed the template for much of the 80s hard rock scene: solid bass and outstanding guitar work, coupling with keyboards and polished production.

Album opener I Got Your Number is a good indication of how enjoyable and essential the whole is. Throughout, most songs are hard and heavy, but Where Did The Time Go bringds a moodier feel to things, and even has a hint of soul.

With detailed sleevenotes and interviews, and bonus demo tracks from the planned second album, this really is an essential part of any classic hard rock record collection.
