Cliff Richard & The
Shadows
London Greenwich O2
28th September, 2009
View: first tier, middle
Cliff Richard, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett are still around and still cut the mustard! They stuck to a scorching pre-1965 track-list, The Shadows playing two instrumental sets either side of the break, with Hank not missing a lick, or step, as the famous Shadows choreography was put through its paces. The set was stuffed with hits, and it’s impossible not to love Cliff, dancing about the stage for over two hours. His voice was as near-perfect as his looks, only starting to crack on the final song, more with emotion than strain. He even kicked into Elvis mode for a couple of songs, controlling the stage, sending himself up, as did Hank and Bruce. They belted out some mighty rock – 41 songs, ending with a rousing, poignant The Young Ones.
