Junior Boys Own - Junior Boys Own: A Boys Own Odyssey – Acid House Scrapes & Capers
Monumental compilation marking 20 years since Boys Own spearheaded the UK’s acid house revolution
The late 80s acid house revolution changed the way people partied, made music, dressed and fought the law, sparking a global movement which still continues to grow. In comparison, punk was like a short-lived dress rehearsal for the main youth-quake. From 1988, Boys Own were at the forefront of this seismic rebellion, throwing riotous parties soundtracked by DJs Terry Farley and Andrew Weatherall, while producing their own irreverent fanzine which then gave way to the Boys Own record label. When that relaunched as Junior Boys Own, it scored massive success with names like Underworld, Chemical Brothers and X-press 2.
Farley and backroom man Steve Hall are marking Boys Own’s 20th anniversary with a double-CD/-vinyl compilation featuring the likes of Bocca Juniors, DSK and Sunscreem, alongside Boys Own remixes, such as Farley’s take on Primal Scream’s Loaded and epic early Weatherall reconstructions of Happy Mondays, Jah Wobble and James, plus roof-raising JBO landmarks. Each of the 24 tracks is an unadulterated classic, which, with the ultra-cool presentation, makes for the dance collection of the year.
