A major figure in the country blues guitar movement, Jefferson (blind from birth) was a popular artist in the 20s – highly unusual for a performer who sang solo and largely performed his own works. He would become an influence on future legends such as Leadbelly. This album is a good starter for anyone unfamiliar with Jefferson’s works, as it features recordings he made on both Paramount and Okeh, including classics such as That Black Snake Moan and Got The Blues.
