Danny Krivit - 718 Sessions
“New York’s Best Party” boiled down to superlative mix album
Danny Krivit is one of the legends of New York dance music, having DJed at the city’s landmark clubs over the past 38 years while becoming ackowledged master of the reedit. Most recently, apart from co-hosting Body & Soul alongside Francois K and Joe Claussell, Krivit has hosted the 718 Sessions, starting in Brooklyn (hence area code-related name) before moving to Manhattan and becoming known as the “Best Party In NYC”.
To capture the atmosphere of epic sessions which straddle dance music’s multi-strained history is a formidable task but Krivit, who has 80,000 records to choose from, pulls it off in elegantly compelling style. He kicks off with Chyna’s soulful NY house before reaching for the skies and establishing a plateau of dancefloor nirvana by his re-edit of Freddy Turner’s disco-flavoured Spread Love, which continues through the twinkling hip-house of Jazzy Jeff, spine-massaging deepness of Kings Of Tomorrow, Earth People’s eerie dub-disco and back to NY garage with Louie Vega and UBQ Project. Krivit has not only created a sumptuous representation of his club’s amazing vibe, but one of the great New York dance music collections.
