Al Atkins - Demon Deceiver
Sometime Judas Priest singer reissued
“I never reached the top, but I gave it a bloody good go,” ruminated ex-Judas Priest singer Al Atkins in his recent autobiography, Dawn Of The Metal Gods (co-written by Neil Daniels, who supplies sleevenotes here). Atkins’ 2007 album Demon Deceiver, reissued with two bonus tracks to tie in with Priest’s 40th anniversary, proves that he’s still giving it his all, as a thoroughly respectable, melodic metal album with obvious links to his old band. Britrock legend Bernie Torme contributes to A Void To Avoid with his usual panache, and the rest (notably standout tracks Sentenced, the old stalwart Victim Of Changes and the excellent title cut) make for a perfectly tasty collection suited to the nostalgic headbanger in your life.
