Hawkwind
Buxton Opera House
28th May, 2009
View: seated, centre-front
Celebrating 40 years, Hawkwind have lost none of their otherwordly power, with costumed dancers, psychedelic projections, flashing lights, dry ice and a sound system that rumbles your rib cage. Opener Assault & Battery was played with conviction, signalling the start of a serious sonic attack. Bassist Mr. Dibs drove a deadly path through a heavy Angels Of Death, and the furious pace didn’t let up as Dave Brock launched into an energetic Death Trap. An unexpected highlight was a superb You’d Better Believe It, while Orgone Accumulator had the punters dancing in the aisles. Closing the main set was a lively Right To Decide, after which we were treated to a brilliant encore of Hassan I Sahba. The Opera House was levitating of its own accord.
