Siouxsie - Finale: The Last Mantaray & More Show

Welcome to the dreamhouse

Siouxsie is on fine form here at the final show of the Mantaray & More Tour, recorded and filmed on 29 September last year. The two-hour set bursts with life as she hammers through tracks from her debut solo album. They Follow You and About To Happen are welcome additions to a set that also features all the Banshees classics you’d care to mention, including Hong Kong Garden, Happy House, Arabian Nights, Israel and Dear Prudence. The gig’s energy never abates, with covers of The Doors’ Hello, I Love You and Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Were Made For Walking shimmering with spirit. In the hands of a performer of such force, the latter is quite something to behold.

There’s also a half-hour interview with Siouxsie and Harvey Bertram-Brown, the project’s artistic director. Though in good form offstage, Siouxsie’s natural habitat is onstage and she doesn’t just ace it, she absolutely rules it. With the raft of Banshees reissues out at the moment, this is a very timely reminder that a musician’s life never stops developing, showing that Siouxsie is certainly in the middle of an exceptionally verdant creative patch. Finale? Maybe the end of Act One…
