The Beach Boys - Summer Love Songs

Old faves with collectors’ gems mixed in

Summer’s approaching and the inevitable Beach Boys collection is upon us. This time, however, fans will be a tad more excited than usual, as this is more than a repackaging of the original Girls On The Beach LP. Alongside a previously unreleased Dennis Wilson track, Fallin’ In Love, there are six new stereo mixes: Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Don’t Worry Baby, Hushabye, I’m So Young, Good To My Baby and Time To Get Alone.

The aforementioned Dennis recording is a rewrite of his song Lady, which only appeared on a single as Dennis Wilson & Rumbo back in late 1970. Elsewhere there are some safe and expected ballad choices, but also some welcome lesser known ones such as Our Sweet Love and Your Summer Dream. Amid them all is In The Parkin’ Lot, which we suppose gets the nod as it’s lyrically concerned with summer puppy love – even though, musically, it’s some way from the rest. Hardcore fans will certainly want this, and others will also enjoy the fun.
