Cats In Boots - Kicked & Clawed

Americn-Japanese quartet’s 1989 opus

Eleven songs from Joel Ellis (vocals), coolly-named Takashi O’Hashi (guitar) et al, pitching their hair metal stall with a dose of sleaze à la Hanoi Rocks from the off. The fun Shot Gun Sally twangs along nicely, Her Money rocks with gusto and Whip It Out is a steamy, if more basic, take on things Aerosmith. Long Long Way From Home goes a bit too Showaddywaddy on the vocals, but there’s some fine chugging riffage, as on the dinky Coast To Coast. Bizarrely, Every Sunrise presages early Muse (but with Rob McAuley-like vocals), while Evil Angel gets the period funk-metal vibe. The harmonica-shaped Judas Kiss is a party anthem to reckon with and Heaven On A Heart Beat closes with appropriate effects.
