Django Reinhardt - 1938: London Debut & Paris Sessions

Jazz guitarist meets Benny Carter

There are dozens of compilations devoted to this seminal jazz guitar player, but this, released in a replica 78 sleeve, is a succinct introduction. It features the Decca sessions, recorded in 1938, after Reinhardt’s mature live performance in London. In the middle of this Decca activity, Reinhardt managed to squeeze in some sessions with jazz man Benny Carter in Paris. The final recording is a lively, vivacious retrospective which includes Tea For Two, You Rascal You and I’m Coming Virginia.
