Van Halen tour partners’ debut
The quintet led by singer/ guitarist Steve Plunkett toured with Van Halen back in the mid-80s and won plaudits from the likes of Ozzy and Mötley Crüe. Half of their 1984 10-song debut (with bonus remix here) is akin to the latter, with plenty of shrill vocals, thumping percussion and natty high school anthem refrains, as on Turn Up The Radio and the breezy Cloud 10. Guitars bray and whinny on the romping My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend Isn’t Me, and the closing trio of singalongs (Friday, the AOR of In The Night and the ballady All I’m Gonna Take) showcase the band’s promise, if not revealing a motherlode that could challenge their more famous headlining partners.
