Airbourne, Stone
Gods
Liverpool Academy
7th November, 2008
View: back, centre, standing
Both bands have rich careers ahead of them. Formerly the core of The Darkness, Stone Gods were a world away from pomp-rock and OTT costumes, kicking off their set with the excellent Burn The Witch, followed by half a dozen songs from their energetic debut album. There were sound issues, but playing in front of a packed Academy seemed natural to them.
Aussie rockers Airbourne displayed so much energy and charisma it was quite disturbing. They used every rock cliché in the book, but did it with such vehemence that it’s hard to knock them. Their one-hour headlining slot was stunning, firing through such potential classics as Too Much Too Young, Too Fast and Runnin’ Wild. It won’t be long before they’re playing bigger venues.
