Chants R&B - Chants R&B
Garage delights from New Zealand
Like many of their contemporaries, Chants R&B were heavily influenced by British Invasion groups such as the Rolling Stones, Them and The Yardbirds. Hardly prolific, the band produced all of two singles during their career. The music on this LP is split into two themes. Side One features studio recordings, including Neighbour Neighbour and I Want Her, which would find their way onto the singles. Side Two consists of a live gig at the Stage Door club in Christchurch, recorded in October 1966, where the atmosphere is as raw as the performance. A room full of energy with a few added instruments, this mono tape reproduction was intended to be used for demo purposes, so is full of edit cuts. It, nonetheless, still reflects the power of the band as they take on Gloria and I’ll Go Crazy.
