Fuzzy Duck - Fuzzy Duck

3,000-only reissue of classic acid blues-rock debut

This quartet, led by guitarist/ vocalist Graham White, kicked off what would become their prog voyage with an eight-song mix of styles, bolstered here by four bonus cuts. Of these, the Double Dealing 45 sounds like a bassheavy Deep Purple and Big Brass Band is a semi-acoustic, keyshifting slice of brass-rock a la Chicago. Better still is the straighton rock of No Name Face, while album opener Time Will Be Your Doctor is more typical syncopated blues-rock with fuzz guitar, chorale backing vocals and Daze Sharland’s proggy organ tones. The intro to Mrs Prout cries out for sampling, reminiscent as it is of The Charlatans circa 1995, adopting a psych shuffle and percussion crescendo. More Than I Am also stands out with its sweet keys and tablas, before the Cream-esque Country Boy. A Word From Big D is period silliness, but investigating this further would be far from that.
