Ashra - Blackouts
Bow down to this
There are many long-standing bands which ultimately revolve around one man. Other musicians come and go, but there’s always one guy left standing. The Krautrock outfit Ash Ra Tempel is one such band and Manuel Göttsching that man. In fact, it was Göttsching who took the original band into a more electronic direction, changing the name to Ashra and releasing Blackouts in 1977. Basically a solo album, it’s a cracker, with some brilliant eclectic guitar work sitting over electronic washes but always retaining that Berlin flavour. Sit this next to classic Tangerine Dream or early, solo Klaus Schulze.
