Genesis - From Genesis To Revelation

Genesis debut with single sides

While Genesis’ debut recordings from 1968/69 have been reissued numerous times, this 17-song compendium provides a full overview of what Messrs Banks, Rutherford, Gabriel et al were about under the direction of Jonathan King.

King ensured that the band’s sound was more Moody Blues than they’d anticipated, with plenty of added brass and strings, as on the opening Where The Sour Turns To Sweet. There are still distinctive Genesis touches, however, such as Gabriel’s solitary vocal on Window and Banks’ zithery keyboards on Am I Very Wrong?. That said, the effects on the likes of In The Beginning and the chorale harmonies are very Moodies, while The Serpent builds like Edgar Broughton. Electric guitar on The Conqueror stands out from the pastoral psych tones of the whole, while One Eyed Hound closes in swaggering style.
