Paul McCartney,
Kaiser Chiefs, The
Zutons
Liverpool Anfield Stadium
1st June, 2008
View: standing on sacred turf
The Zutons left the less-than-up-for- it masses decidedly unmoved, but the mighty Kaiser Chiefs know how to blast the cobwebs off. A blistering set of shout-alongs included the prediction of a riot and had the mob truly in party mood. Peter Kay was on hand to announce Macca, who kicked-off with an astounding, vocal-shredding Hippy Hippy Shake, before settling into his regular crowd-pleasers. Half-way in, Paul pulled out his poem, In Liverpool, set to music. Then it was back to the hits, including Penny Lane, and Dave Grohl gleefully strumming Band On The Run. He then attacked the drums in an astonishing Back In The USSR (and later, on I Saw Her Standing There). The highlight was a live debut for A Day In The Life, then Lennon’s anthemic Give Peace A Chance.
