The Who Complete Discography
by Christian Suchatzki
You’ll know Who when you read this
Jesus! When it comes to discographies Christian Suchatzki has gone the full nine yards in compiling his 602-page self-published Who discography. Every single and album in whatever format released by the band – as well as their solo outings – is listed alphabetically and allows readers to see, for example, that in 1966 Substitute/Waltz For A Pig was released in countries as diverse as New Zealand, Italy and Germany, and that The High Numbers’ I’m The Face was also issued in South Africa in 1964.
Although all of the sleeves, labels (vinyl, cassette, CD, etc) are reproduced in black-and-white, this does not detract from an exhaustive and forensic effort that is a real pleasure to delve into, covering all 5,325 variations. It’s amazing to see the sleeve of an EP issued in Iran in 1967, which featured Pictures Of Lily and three tracks by other bands. Also, it’s great to discover that Magic Bus – along with many other Who singles – was issued in Russia as a flexidisc. Pravda!
With label variants and even bootlegs, this really is a who’s who for Who fans. It’s also a numbered limited edition and can be ordered online at www.the-who.net.
