Annie Ross - Sings A Song With Mulligan!

Time to appreciate her solo career

Famed for her work with jazzers Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks in the vocal group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, not too many people realise that Annie Ross is English by birth and a successful actress. Her solo singing career is another little appreciated part of her life, though this 1958 album was recorded while she was still a part of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Gerry Mulligan is a constant in the Ross backing, along with Dave Bailey on drums, though there are essentially two Mulligan Quartets playing on this record: Chet Baker or Art Farmer appear on trumpet, and Bill Crow or Henry Grimes take bass duties. Ross connects perfectly with the band, while interpreting many classic songs brilliantly, including I’ve Grown Accustomed to Your Face and Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea.
