Blackmore’s Night - Secret Voyage
More minstrelsy from the caped guitarist and co
Mixing traditional European tunes with newer fare, Ritchie and Candice present another dozen of their Renaissance folk-rock tunes, which will provide a cushioning, relaxing backdrop to any medieval banquet. Opening with the harpsichords, pipes, strings and brass of God Save The Keg (along with some monastic chanting), we’re off down the musical folk lanes of yore, Locked Within A Crystal Ball featuring rolling drums, harp and sackbut to create a grand atmosphere akin to Magenta. Toast To Tomorrow skips off on a Balkans jig, before the classical strains of Prince Waldeck’s Galliard (they don’t name songs like that any more), a sweet take on Rainbow Eyes and the chorale-backed The Circle. After the slow waltz of Sister Gypsy, a Euro-pop version of Can’t Help Falling In Love With You is followed by the Enya-like dreaminess of Far Far Away, with Candice’s ethereal vocals, as ever, shining.
