Freddie & Me
by Mike Dawson
Graphic novel on a Queen theme
Comic book fans may know the author for his Gabagool! series, and here he celebrates his lifelong obsession with Queen – with a nod towards George Michael. It’s a sort of autobiography which explores the way that music can influence and even shape our lives, illustrated in black-and-white comic strips and with an American perspective. It’s charming, but I suspect most fans of comic art (and, indeed, of Queen) would expect something a bit more over the top, excessive and dark. In short, a bit more, er, graphic.
