Einstürzende Neubauten - The Jewels
Herr Blixa and friends flip their script
Neubauten have always operated according to their own rules and, true to form, Blixa and co have drawn up a whole new set of directives specially formulated for the recording of this particular album.
The Jewels takes Neubauten’s already tangential approach to song structure several stages further along the highway of the extraordinary. Now released as the commercial version of their latest supporter project, funded through subscription via www.neubauten.org, Neubauten’s left-of-centre trajectory moves into new and previously unexplored areas of experimentation thanks to the use of their ego free composition technique. An unsystematic set of cards listing conceptual starting points, sounds and materials as a pseudo-Tarot was dealt to each band member to be used as directives.
The resultant 15 scaled-down tracks document Neubauten at their most Dadaist, thriving on the random combination of ingredients which underlies the entire project. Even by their own exacting standards, this ranks as an artefact of no little uniqueness.
