Alan Davey - Human On The Outside

Davey’s on the road again

With his third solo album, Human On The Outside, Davey, mainstay bassist through Hawkwind’s unloved years, has created a most diverting sound wash. Full of just enough space thrust to keep longterm Hawkfans on board, it also has enough of a contemporary twist to snag the passing modernist. Ethic Mosaic 2 sounds like something Thievery Corporation would have recorded. He even suggests moderation on Delusions Of Ganja (“It’s an art you must control”). Meads Of Asphodel (Davey’s other long-term gig) vocalist Metatron pops by to guest on the climatic horror-metal closer Glass Wolves.

This is well-played grown-up cosmic raving with a strong filmic quality. It’s the type of music that belched out from distorting speakers in the sort of field you passed quickly through at Glastonbury before The Man moved in.
