Kasabian: Sound,Movement & Empire
by Joe Shooman

The NME’s best live act now comes in paperback

A must for Kasabian fans, RC contributor Joe Shooman’s bio comprehensively details the band’s journey performance by performance, from their first gig at Blaby Football Club in Leicester, to two critically acclaimed albums and an award for Best Live Act at the 2007 NME Awards.

Split into three parts that make up the subtitle Sound, Movement & Empire, the first tells of the band’s formation in the late 90s; the second documents their relentless touring, ultimately leading to the release of their debut LP in 2004; the third reports on them at the top of their game and explains the departure of founding member Chris Karloff. Kasabian, who have declared themselves “the second best thing to come out of Leicester after Englebert Humperdinck” will be delighted that the ’Dinck himself wrote the foreword to this unofficial bio, in which he suggests they study their hit formula and choose releases accordingly – advice RC hopes they’ll ignore.

Determination and ambition are recurring themes here and, in revealing these qualities and giving musical context around the story, Kasabian: Sound, Movement & Empire gives insight not only into the band, but also into what it takes to make it in today’s music industry.
