Eberhard Weber - Silent Feet

Bass-head jazz pushed to atonal limits

Jazz bassist Weber’s unique perspective on his instrument embraces modern classical. Adding an extra string to his bass in the early 70s gave him a sound that stood him apart from his contemporaries.

On this album Weber’s bass sounds almost treated as he moves through three long tracks that each build to individual crescendos. In the company of Charlie Mariano (soprano and flute), Rainer Bruninghaus (keyboards) and John Marshall (drums), the title track bubbles along ŕ la early Pat Metheny. Eyes That Can See In The Dark takes an almost spiritual perspective on jazz and Seriously Deep directly plugs into Weber’s Steve Reich influence. Weber loves melody but he’s not afraid to push to it to almost atonal limits while retaining the melodic jazz structure.
