Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich - The BBC Sessions
1966-71 tracks from the full band, solo and
Releases of material recorded especially for BBC radio back in the 60s and 70s have been with us for many years now. Issues focusing on unique sessions by The Beatles, Queen and Led Zeppelin are just a few that spring to mind, and you can now add Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich to that ever-growing list.
This 2-CD release kicks off with Is It Love, recorded for the Light Programme’s Saturday Club show on 27 April 1966 and concludes 53 tracks later with a solo Dave Dee performing Sweden for Radio 1’s Tony Brandon Show on 29 March, 1971. Along the way you’ve got superb quality versions of the hits Hold Tight!, Bend It and The Legend Of Xanadu (all from Saturday Club), 1969-71 sessions by the Dave-less Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich and, to round the set off, two 1971 solo tracks by Dee. Complete song-by- song dates and sleevenotes by Dave Dee are also featured.
In all, for fans of the group and for connoisseurs of 60s pop music this is a very nice, highly comprehensive, first-class package. But then again, what else would you expect from BR Music? Once more, they’ve set the benchmark for how archive releases should be produced.
