Little Feat - Dixie Chicken

A major feat

At first sight, the obvious thing would be to dismiss this outfit as a typical collection of American blues ringers. Yet Little Feat couldn’t be further from that. Their eclectic nature mixed several genres together and wrapped them in supreme musicianship. This album is arguably their best release, mainly because it saw the fleeting, finely balanced combination of several creative forces. Lowell George’s best songwriting and maturing leadership skills were at the heart of the album, but the basic band sound reached a delicate peak. It was the only time when a flavour of the unconventional nature of the band’s first two albums combined with the group’s new-found blend of funk, country-blues and easygoing charm. The latter would form the independent pattern for all subsequent albums, but Little Feat would never again sound as good than they do here.
