Johnny Tillotson - It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin’/ You Can Never Stop Me Loving You

Marshmallow music from the finest ingredients

Mr Tillotson was styled as a country-pop boy next door in the famed “Bobbys” era of early 60s US pop. His production sound was clean, polished and ultimately professional, aided by the fact that he could actually sing well. These two albums, from 1962 and ’63 respectively, reflect his range at the time, with the first sticking close to the country style that had provided him with hits such Funny How Time Slips Away, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry and Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On – teen heartbreakers, all included here.

The second album is a tad more pop-orientated, with A Very Good Year For Girls and good covers of Donna, Venus and Come Softly To Me. A bonus of the first take of It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin’ and informative sleevenotes from Tony Rounce complete a good package.
