Frankie Banali & Friends - The 24/7/365 Tribute To Led Zeppelin
Quiet Riot drummer and chums ramble on
With Zeppelin reuniting, the Quiet Riot sticksman revisits 11 of their prime platters and adds The Eye Of God instrumental tribute. He’s assisted on opener The Wanton Song by the Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) and Alex Ligertwood (Santana), plus ever-present bassist Tony Franklin (ex-The Firm). The staccato guitar and rhythm works well, as do most of the tracks, without offering anything revelatory. Glenn Hughes wails over the rattling percussion of Four Sticks, Don Dokken is less impressive on the restrained Kashmir and Out On The Tiles sees Survivor’s Rob McCauley equally in Planty’s shadow (with Whitesnake’s Reb Beach on guitar).
Other more notable moments come from Mark Boals and Bruce Kulick, former Rising Force and Kiss members respectively, on The Ocean, and Toto’s Bobby Kimball impressing on the pumping Immigrant Song, alongside onetime GN’R man Gilby Clarke. Ex-Journey’s Jeff Scott Soto funks up Royal Orleans, Kevin DuBrow provides a decent Gallows Pole for his Quiet Riot colleague, and the lengthy When The Levee Breaks closes things in similar style.
