The first of five sold-out nights celebrating the 30th anniversary of Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols and John Lydon, at 50, still demonstrates sarcasm and wit, his regular interactions with the audience adding to an electric atmosphere. The Pistols lap up the adulation and banter commences as roadies unveil the drum kit and push it centre-stage. However, Lydon immediately steals the limelight, dressed in green tweed jacket and matching plus-fours. Pretty Vacant sees the front rows go predictably mad. A few stone-age diehards still feel the need to gob and chuck lager, but nothing can stop the Pistols juggernaut, as the 12 tracks of NMTB are supplemented with No Fun, Stepping Stone and Did You No Wrong. The best is left to last with blistering encores of Bodies, Anarchy In The UK and, to everyone’s surprise, the PiL-like Baghdad Blast.
