Leo Sayer - Singles As & Bs

The show must go on. And on.

Gerald Sayer (Leo to his fans) has been in that sad position of being well known for something he has long regretted: his wholesale move into disco, away from his early folk/Americana roots. That said, disco paid him well and his 2006 return to No 1 with Thunder In My Heart (with Meck) proves that you can’t keep the curly-topped troubadour down, no matter how much the snooty press have tried. A triple-disc assessment of his oeuvre is something that only Repertoire could do. Superbly assembled, chock full of memorabilia and notes, it still makes you think, Leo Sayer did that? Really? So what we have, simply, is all the singles up to 1990. Which, to the wider world, means everything we know until 1983 and the rest, which, let it be said, includes some extremely competent productions. So, let’s bask in the extended glory of Moonlighting, Long Tall Glasses and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing; enjoy Why Is Everybody Going Home (his debut single), Thunder In My Heart and How Much Love; tolerate The Show Must Go On. And, depending on the strength of your Sayer predilection, do what you will with the remaining 51 tracks.
