Buddy Guy - Can’t Quit The Blues

Can’t stop, won’t stop

For the wildly inventive, compelling guitarist, impassioned singer, songwriter, producer, band leader and nightclub proprietor Buddy Guy, who turned 70 last July, the past few years have seen one milepost after another. They include a fifth Grammy for his acoustic Blues Singer project, induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and the release of this display-book set, featuring a bonus DVD loaded with previously unreleased concert appearances. The first CD begins with a 1957 demo, along with a tasty selection of early Chicago sides (including the unedited version of his 1962 R&B charter, Stone Crazy). It closes with DJ Play My Blues, his wry commentary on the early 80s blues scene. While more early material would have been welcome, Discs Two and Three judiciously sample his long legacy with Silvertone and sport five previously unreleased songs between them, as well as collaborations with the likes of admirers Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Jonny Lang, Keith Richards and BB King. The DVD presents an information-packed, 90-minute career-spanning documentary, along with 11 recently unearthed live performance clips, mostly recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival, beginning in 1974.
