Asia - The Definitive Collection

Pomp-rockers’ one-stop

There have been umpteen Asia comps over the years, from plain best ofs to reworked sets taking in retreads from the John Payne-led outfit. But for those who want an introduction to the definitive line-up, this 16-track collection is just the ticket. It’s almost pointless to rattle off highlights, such is the quality of the fare culled from the band’s first three albums, with opener Heat Of The Moment laying down the template for what follows; full of parping keys, heady vocals, mighty percussion and sweet guitar. That said, B-side Daylight could’ve been replaced with a latterday corker such as Voice Of America, and a remix of Go somewhat negates the inclusion of Go proper. That aside, it’s a classic rock soundtrack par excellence.
